With a deadline hanging over me, this is not good! Grrr!
Sweeney Todd is about a barber whose family has been wronged by the city's judge. After years of imprisonment, he comes back to avenge himself with the help of his landlady and meat pie's maker, Mrs. Lovett. Themes of revenge and death surround the film yet you couldn't help feel for the plight of its characters. With such loneliness, sino ba ang hindi gugustuhin na magtampumpay sila, di ba? Dark and horrifyingly funny, Sweeney Todd is not just for musical lovers. They can also be enjoyed by those who stay away from them. Now you have a reason to see one! See it and be proud you have seen it!
Ooh, Mr Todd! I'm so happy. I could eat you up, I really could. - "By the Sea"

27 Dresses. Cute, that is 27 Dresses! I'm not sure whether that's bad or not but then, who can resist the charms of Katherine and James? Katherine is such a sweetheart while James is so dreamy! He can take Patrick's title any time! With those blue eyes, shiny smile, and bedroom voice, awww! He'll truly melt in your hearts!27 Dresses is about a woman who dreams of having her own dream wedding. However, when a man exposes her heart's true desires, she begins to wonder about the possibility of truly having her dream wedding.
Rating: 6/10 (For James, I give it a 10!)
Colma: The Musical. We, Pinoys, should be proud of this one. Songs and screenplay written by Pinoy H. P. Mendoza, this one is definitely a must-watch. It is about three friends who grew up in Colma. Two of them (a guy and his gay best friend) want to leave the city and they try their best to do whatever it takes to make their dreams come true -- even leaving their family and memories behind. Or are they truly leaving them? As they say (or sing) always, Colma stays.Colma: The Musical obviously had limited budget. The acoustics of the songs are limited to guitar and piano (and sometimes follow same beats which could be irritating at times but helps in keeping up with them) and the production values are so simple that one would think that it is a student film. It also has the feel of not taking the musical vibe seriously by not going all-out. Imagine, most of the singing happens when they are walking! Ayun, habang naglalakad, pakanta-kanta lang. Where did their imagination and choreography go? Limited budget doesn't mean limited imagination, right? Sayang at marami pa naman siyang possibilities.
Overall though, it is good. The songs may not be great compared to other musicals but they have potential. Does he also need to star in it? Baka naman there is a better actor than him.

Naked Boys Singing! Apart from the Sweeney Todd soundtrack that is on rotation on my player, I truly enjoy listening to NBS. It is pure gay camp and fun! Once you get pass the gratituous nudities on the show, tuloy-tuloy na ang saya at tuwa! Most of the actors are good-looking so hindi lang listening delight ang show, visual feast din siya. Umuulan ng nota figuratively at literally!
The songs range from witty to vulgar, serious to scandalous, humorous to plain absurd. Nevertheless, it is fun fun fun! After all, they're naked men singing! It is one of my current favorites! Talagang mapapakanta ka ng "Jack's Song" - I beat my meat! I beat my meat! I get a grip, unzip zip zip. I'm gonna give myself a treat!

Eternal Summer. I have never been so much affected emotionally by a film in recent times like this one. It is tension-filled especially for people who has gone through the same situation as the characters. It is about two boys, Boy A & Boy B, who grew up together and become the best of friends. Their worlds are shaken by the introduction of a girl who come in between them.Girl becomes involves with Boy A (Bryant Chang, who looks a lot like our very own Mike Tan) but learns that he is very much in love with Boy B (Joseph Chang, whose puppy-eyes and bad boy looks - in the movie - are really to die for!) . She continues being friends with him only to get into a deeper friendship with Boy B. Since then, naging masalimuot na ang mga nangyari sa kanila. Every minute of the film once the secret has been told is stress-inducing. Iba-ibang level siya especially when the most-awaited event between the two leads happens. When it happens, ibang feeling naman ang mararamdaman mo. I have hated Girl for coming in-between the two boys but later, my sympathy goes to her na.
ES is considered to be a gay-movie from Thailand. However, it speaks of universal truth -- love! All is fair in love and war, 'ika nga. But is truly fair when it comes to love? Iyun na 'ata ang pinakanakakalokang experience ko sa tanang buhay ko, and I have fallen into such pits several times. Buti na lang at natuto na ko.
Ending is open-ended. It has worked for some while the others hated it. Nevertheless, ES has become one of the critically-acclaimed films that came from Thailand.

I Am Legend. Ayos ang pagka-suspense nito sa umpisa. Nakaka-tensyon talaga. But somehow, it ended na parang may kulang. Rating: 6/10. National Treasures: Book of Secrets. Galeng nito! Exciting at nakakatuwa. I liked it better than Part 1 (na kailan ko rin lang napanood). Pero 'yung iba mas like 'yung una. Rating: 7/10. Katas ng Saudi. Nakakatawa! Totoong-totoo! Pero naman! Manalo bang Best Actor si Jinggoy? Di naman 'ata 'yun makatotohanan! Kakalokah! Directed by Joey Reyes. Rating: 7/10. Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo. Medyo disappointed ako with this one. The magic dies kasi. Even the vacation scenes didn't make much sense to me. Kainez! Rating: 5/10. Pasukob. Kundi dahil it's a poor excuse for a spoof. Asus!) Rating: 2/10. Apat Dapat, Dapat Apat. If Katas ng Saudi is the better MMFF '07 movie of direk Joey, this one is the better direk Wenn film. You really need not take the film seriously. It has its moments of laughter and bittersweet moments. Pramis, it made me shed tears three times! Genuine kasi 'nung dating ng friendship ng four leads. May kurot sa puso kumbaga. Candy Pangilinan shines in her dramatic moments while Eugene Domingo oftentimes make such great comic timing. May mga spoofs din siya but done with taste. Hindi OA. Rating: 7/10. Superbad. Superbad is supergood! It is seriously funny and laugh-out-loud dramatic! It is about two high school friends that are about to separate for college. Grabe! One of the greatest moments in cinema happened at the end of the movie. Truly heartwarming! Hindi lang kurot sa puso ang ginawa. Parang dinakma niya ang puso mo at pinatibok! That's how great it is! Rating: 9/10
For the life of me, I've been seeing familiar people on the street or in malls and there are times that I can't tell whether they were schoolmates, neighbors, former students, acquaintances, (sort of/feeling) celebrities (that I've seen on TV or movies), or people I've seen on the net. The problem lies when they start smiling, acknowledging whatever connections we had. I don't smile back because what I know for sure eh hindi ko sila talaga kangitian noong araw pa. But then, I feel guilty afterwards. I mean, eto na nga't namamansin sila at ako naman 'tong nang-iisnab. Then I'd ask myself, sino ba sila? Sa'n ko ba sila nakilala? Iniisip ko rin if ever I will see them again 'cause if I will, maybe it's time that I start making ties with them. I had "intimate relations" with at 'di sila makilala! 'Di pa naman nangyayari 'yun dahil 'di rin naman sila karamihan para di ko maalala. 'Di naman ako kalahi ni Samantha (of SATC), no. Nonetheless, I'm happy with the new connections I'm making and re-connecting with old friends and class/schoolmates.
Hay, ang buhay nga naman ng tumatanda. In a few days, I'll be turning 31. Syemas! I didn't make any much plans. (I was in a kinda "negative" state then. Ah - 20s crisis!)
Kaya ang ending tuloy, they get frustrated and disappointed. 'Di ko rin naman sila masisisi. Ang guide nila ay 'yung mga taong naging milyonaryo (o bilyonaryo) during their 20s. Gusto nila ma-achive nila 'yun. There's nothing wrong with that, of course. Ang siste, they don't get to enjoy life the way they supposed to.
Sabi kasi nila, everything seems steady when you reach 40. You just go with the flow. Gusto ko 'yun. Mabuhay dahil gusto mo. Mabuhay dahil masarap mabuhay.
'Yun lang.
P.S. Hay, ano ba ang mood ng post na 'to? Cheery o sad ba?
Biboy has read about this film months ago while I was conceptualizing Panata. He was actually freaked out just knowing what it was all about. It premiered in the 2007 Sundance Film Festival under the drama category. (Drama pa 'to sa lagay n'yan, ah!)
Showing in the US this January, this is Teeth. I'm not sure when it'll be shown here (or if ever we'll have the chance to see it on Phippine cinemas).
Nangangain pala. *wink wink*
